GROOM is Dunedin’s first professional laser & skin clinic offering para-medical and beauty grooming services with an emphasis on making medical grade laser accessible to all and changing the paradigm of permanent hair reduction.
With new ownership came a new name and a complete identity overhaul to match. The brand needed to appeal to both male and female clients, with a high-end appeal. Masculine enough to draw in men and make them feel comfortable, yet not too much so to alienate the female clients. The tone is moody, high fashion and inviting to passers by.
Made up of a sharp, bold, display serif that holds weight, the primary logo is locked up with an old-style typeface, retaining the heritage of the building and adding character. Mirroring these forms, the diamond shape is carried across into the mark and pattern. The identity holds to classic, timeless sensibilities, but with a modern edge and subtle touches of detail throughout. Extra finishes of gold foil, metallic inks and die-cut edges were used where possible to reflect a certain class and quality. Introducing a vellum coloured stock bought a softness and warmth.
We formed a system of utilitarian forms and tables that served as a practical way to display treatments, prices and offers. A cropped logotype acts as a framing device, as bold, generously spaced typography falls off the page's edge, emanating the repetition of billstickers on the surrounding streets.

PNT Construct is a construction company with a focus on architectural new builds. With a clear vision, we rolled out a system built on an invisible grid; a type device with a structural feel that is stripped back to its necessary, minimal elements. A bold mark was developed to subtly accompany brand materials. To reflect the high-end direction, quality uncoated paper stocks were chosen with foil and deboss finishes and the use of black-on-black. A mint green accent softened the heavy black and abstracted architectural close-ups with strong shadows were used to draw the eye and make the connection.

Total Body Concept is an award winning skin clinic and day spa offering specialised skin and body treatments delivered by skilled, highly trained therapists.
Located in a state-of-the-art, purpose built clinic in the center of Christchurch city, the spa is a leader in skin and beauty, investing in the most up-to-date technology available anywhere in the world. While on a mission to reverse ageing, prevent skin damage and maintain a young, healthy, glowing complexion, Total Body Concept also shares a philosophy of 'Live the Balance' that helps maintain energy, passion and health.
We were brought on to refresh the brand image and communications, moving it away from the industry's typical traits. With a loyal following and an influx of next generation clientele, it was important that the brand touchpoints reflected a clean, high-end look and feel that shouted of their excellence.
We created a system that breathes balance. Working from the structure of grid layouts fit for each medium, the format allowed for flexibility in consistency. Precision placement and division of space echoes the attention to detail in-clinic. Clean, feminine display typography alongside the vibrancy of over-printed pastel speaks of beauty, light and refreshing. Real life photography brought a warmth and welcoming that was previously lacking. Silver foil details were introduced and paired with floral photography for VIP, elite clients and special events. Bold, burnt colouring was used to flow with the seasons.
Soft, uncoated white papers, carry bags with silk ribbon handles, custom stamps, unique folds and cuts - we built a collection of branded promotional and educational pieces advocating healthy lifestyles. The success of advertising campaigns grew stronger as a result, helping position the business to meet their well deserved 'Clinic of the Year' status.

Held over the Easter holiday weekend at Spencer Park, Eastercamp is 5 days of awesome for over 4,500 young people. We created a new identity system for the event. A consistent base brand that could be flexibly refreshed from year to year. This not only keeps the brand alive for longer than the current year, but solved the problem of constantly re-creating signage and merch that would have otherwise immediately outdated.
The establishing style for 2015 was an element we coined the 'Hexagrid'. It was built on the underlying grid system we used to create the logo, resulting in a structured yet offbeat style.

Over the month of March, The Neighbourhood Project launched their annual 'Piece of Cake' campaign, an initiative to build better connected communities and provide easy ways to connect with your neighbours. We helped make this project a success by refreshing the style to be fun and inviting. We created spot illustrations that helped carry the brand message and posters that circulated Canterbury-wide.

Cornerstone Building is a leading residential construction company based in Christchurch, New Zealand. Proud to have helped dozens of Kiwi families rebuild their homes after the devastating Canterbury earthquakes, Cornerstone needed a brand they could be proud to call their own.
ThompsonCo designed and developed a new identity taking cues from the angles of mono-pitched roofs used in the construction of modern residential houses. The 'corner stone' holds the mark in place and this motif is echoed through the type. The brand holds a posture of strength and professionalism with its bold, sharp edges, soft charcoal tones and a friendly pop of cyan blue.

Based on the ideals and workmanship of the blacksmith, we built a brand with the strength of wrought iron and the craftsmanship of a nineteenth century forger. Anvils are a metalworkers tool, a common surface with which to strike the work piece. An X and Y axis is also commonplace with web projects. This play on the word axes (plural of axis) allowed the name to maintain its rugged, sharp edge while staying true in meaning.
We took advantage of the parallels discovered between this age old profession and that of a skilled web developer throughout the copy and graphics creating a consistent visual language. A responsive website was built to reflect these sensibilities and showcase the capabilities of the development workhorse as blacksmiths of the internet.

Working closely with new makeup and artistry venture, LASH, we developed a flexible identity system based on the elegant lines and subtleties of hand stamped documents of old. With restraint and a consistent thickness, we created line icons representing each of their services and skillsets.
Introducing a soft, pastel colour palette, we wanted to maintain those muted tones and handcrafted nuances throughout the printed material using recycled papers and boards. We combined all these elements to form a collateral set complete with custom rubber stamps giving it a boutique feel.

Neat Places is an independent guide to Christchurch's best restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and galleries. With the support of Gap Filler, and in association with Creative NZ and the Christchurch City Council, we joined forces as creative partner for the Pocket Guide this time around.
With a palette of dirty pastels, references to historical Christchurch and a healthy dose of line illustrations, we embarked on this fun project, showcasing all that the city has to offer.

Born out of a desire to engage students in their learning whilst also being true to the requirements of the curriculum, MAKEorBREAK™ is a classroom resource for primary and secondary schools that is fun for students and teachers alike.
Originally just a Powerpoint-based game, MAKEorBREAK™ has expanded to include online playing options. We developed the brand from its identity and graphic elements, through to user-experience and gameplay, introducing the Boredom Disposal theme throughout the website and printed collateral.

Art Beat is a free programme of performance, music, graffiti art, exhibitions, murals and art installations in Christchurch's renowned Re:START container mall. The programme offers a diverse range of arts practices and extends opportunities for the professional involvement of young local artists of all mediums and backgrounds.
We were tasked with the refreshing and redesigning of the event and all of its promotional materials. This included the creation of the main identity system, a new pattern backdrop, and respective colour palettes, posters, flyers, oversize brochures, signage, and online media.

Striving to be a standout name in interior decorating in the Canterbury region, Interior FX needed a whole new look and a consistent brand image across all avenues. A signage company with a full spectrum of offerings, Academy Signs commissioned us to refresh a tired brand image.
Choosing a vibrant magenta, we expanded on the idea of standing out amongst the crowd, creating an asterisk of A's. This sharp brand identity translated well across all materials, most importantly signage.

With a set of key values and a fairly 'cloak and dagger' approach, we created a professional identity for a consultancy that stands out for its fresh and personable integrity.
It was imperative that MacDonald Consultancy look and feel authorative, well-established, and somewhat traditional without blending into the crowd. We built upon that premise with a strong, recognisable mark and a collection of structured patterns for use on various collateral. The colour palette is striking and the brand is versatile enough for any situation.
